I heard Allah is the moon god worshiped by the tribe of Mohammad is this true?

In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate.
First of all, you are definitely not the first to ask such a question simply because the claim that Allah is the moon god and was worshiped by the tribe of Mohammad is simply a gross lie spread by many anti-Islamic websites. Let us analyze the claim in three simple steps
==========================================
Part 1: What does Allah mean, and what about the name of the moon 'god'.
Allah means "THE God". There are many different words for THE God such as THE Father, Yahweh, Jehovah, Aten, etc etc yet for some reason people say 'Allah' means THE MOON god, Why? The issue is either ignorance or distortion of the facts.
The pagan moon god worshiped by the Quraysh was named Al-Lāt  (اللات‎) and is actually a moon goddess. So not only is the name COMPLETELY different than Allah (الله), but the genders are wrong too.
In fact the Quran mentions Al-Lat is nothing more than human fabrication:
[53:19] Compare this with the female idols Al-Laat and Al-`Uzzah.[53:20] And Manaat, the third one.[53:21] Do you have sons, while He has these as daughters?[53:22] What a disgraceful distribution![53:23] These are but names that you made up, you and your forefathers. GOD never authorized such a blasphemy. They follow conjecture, and personal desire, when the true guidance has come to them herein from their Lord.
==========================================
Part 2: Do Muslims worship the moon?
The Quran, which is the Holy Book for Muslims very clearly answers this:
[41:37] Among His proofs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate before the sun, nor the moon; you shall fall prostrate before the GOD who created them, if you truly worship Him alone.
As you can see God commanded everyone to worship GOD alone and not the sun nor the moon.
==========================================
Part 3: Then how come the crescent is the symbol of Islam?
It isn't. The crescent is actually the symbol of the Ottoman Empire and was the symbol of the Ottomans prior to Mohammad (Peace be upon him). It is viewed as the symbol of Islam because the Ottoman Empire was the Islamic empire for nearly a thousand years. So people have been wrongly associating the symbol of the Ottoman Empire as the symbol of Islam.

Then why is it found on top of many Mosques?

Simply because the Mosques were under control of the Ottoman Empire at the time. Mosques who continue to build with the Crescent on top are simply trying to let others know that it is a Mosque. During the time of the Prophet the Muslims used a white or black flag.

In Conclusion
There isn't a shred of evidence that Allah, aka THE God, is 'the moon goddess'. In fact the Quran condemns all who worship the moon or beings other than God.
